SpotTailI dont know about you but I love to get out on the water and enjoy the local rivers and creeks in the lowcountry.  For me, the redfish, trout and flounder are the fish of choice and getting out on the Cooper River around the Bushy Park rivers are loads of fun.  In the past several years I have spent more time out on these waters and exploring these saltwater creeks and catching my share of reds (or Spottail Bass also called Red Drum).  These fish can put up a good fight and are great eating too.  I am all for catch and release and do my share of that too, but when its time to have some fish for dinner, reds, speckled trout and flounder are all great eating.  If you fish the local waters, be sure to have your fish regulation scale with you so you can measure the fish as you catch them for size limits, etc… because DNR (Department Natural Resources) officers are certainly out there doing their jobs and helping to maintain the limits.  I have been stopped and checked for BoatRamp boat equipment and measured fish and always been fine (because I don’t mess with the limits or regs) but I know some others who were fined for not having their fishing license or too small or too large a fish in the well…so know the rules…and follow them.

When I have time off and good weather, I am likely to be found in my boat on the Cooper River creeks enjoying the sun and solitude of fishing.  Bushy Park boat ramp is a great ramp to put in provided you do it at a medium to higher tide since the water empties out of that cove at low tide…unless you have a canoe or kayak.
